About us
We are one of the oldest businesses in Prestwick and where the Wright’s story began. We have been at the heart of Prestwick since 1947. Our dedicated team enjoy the privilege of serving generations of Prestwick families and regular visitors to the town. Over the years the store has gone through a number of expansions to be bigger and better each time, but still with the same dedication to providing the best possible customer service.
Prestwick won High Street of the Year for Scotland 2019 (High Street Winners 2019)
Since 2019, we have had a small customer car park accessed from Salisbury Place and a rear customer entrance to make it easier for our customers to get to our store and collect heavier goods. Our staff are always happy to help you with purchases to your car. We also have our long established Free Local Delivery Service (£40 Spend). No need even to come to the store: purchases can be phoned in to the store and arranged for delivery on a day to suit you.
Our upstairs floor has a wonderful range of garden furniture – and since 2019 a fantastic range of household furniture, including an exciting new range of ready built furniture.
We have a seasonally available range of plants which has grown over the years to be a much anticipated part of the gardeners seasons in the town. Not only flowers but edible plants too for our keen "grow your own-ers". Spring bulbs, summer Dahlias, Onion sets, Garlic and more are available through our fantastic range from Taylors Bulbs. We have a year round and well stocked range of flower and vegetable seeds from Mr Fothergill’s seeds. Every January we get our Seed Potatoes in with a fantastic range of varieties – not forgetting the Ayrshire Tattie – the ever popular Epicure.
We use local trades – and a local window cleaner - for any repairs and maintenance in the store. This not only reduces driven miles of contractors, but also helps to boost the local economy. Through Prestwick's Business Association we support ‘Lighting Up Prestwick’ our towns annual Christmas lights event which really brings a tremendous buzz to the town – usually on the last Sunday in November. Christmas lights and decorations are a much anticipated part of the seasonal calendar with our Christmas window displays now an established part of Christmas in the town.

The Scotland Loves Local campaign is a national initiative designed to encourage all those who live in Scotland to think local first and support their high streets.
Our small businesses, whether a pub, cafe, tailor, butcher or a grocery shop, are the lifeblood of our Scottish economy. They take risks each and every day to create jobs and prosperity to maintain our way of life.
Whether it’s a book, or a pint of milk, a night out and a meal, a bedside table or some garden furniture, we’re asking you to take care and think local first.

Testimonials
"We parked at the back entrance as I use a wheelchair. Staff were very happy to point out where I could find different products. After paying, our purchases were carried out to the car. A thoroughly pleasant shopping experience."
"Excellent shop. Always have everything that I need at very competitive prices. The car park at the rear of the shop is so convenient to use, always has spaces that are available. Why go all the way up to the Heathfield estate, when everything is on the doorstep."
Meet the Team
We have great team in the store and each and every one of them is friendly, welcoming and dedicated to providing our valued customers the best possible service. Our customers are a great bunch with some real characters and well known regulars. Some like their wee chat and others just looking for a little advice and reassurance that they’re getting the right product for the job. All of which we are delighted to provide. Andy is our longest serving member of staff and a well known face in the town. With over 40 years of service and the knowledge that goes along with that, Andy is an invaluable member of the team who always does his best for everyone. With a keen interest in employing locally, most of our staff are able to travel to work by foot or public transport.
The History of Wright's:
100% home grown in Scotland
Our 1st shop, in Prestwick, was purchased by William Wright, a retired Marine Engineer and native of Glasgow, in 1947. The same year, down at the seafront in Prestwick, Jim Ferguson was born and 15 years later he found himself working for Mr Wright after school. Jim fell in love with the trade and jumped at the chance to buy the business in 1969, aged just 22. He respected what Mr Wright had taught him so much that he kept his mentor’s business name. From that point on Jim worked tirelessly to help independent hardware shops survive and thrive, building up a network of 10 local stores. He was one of the founding members of Home Hardware (Scotland) Ltd in 1983, a buying group that has gone on to become a thriving Ardrossan-based distribution hub, to over 40 family run businesses throughout Scotland and the north of England. Since Jim’s untimely death in 2018, the Ferguson family continue to run the business blending traditional High St values with modern approaches. We strive to support local communities and High Streets from Forres in the north to Hawick in the South. Love Local Today and help your community to thrive!
"Well laid out store. Great selection of goods. It is good to see a proper hardware store. Christmas stock is being put out with some unusual and reasonably priced items. Based on this visit would highly recommend this store."
